Should You Buy an iPad?

by Guest User on December 14, 2011

Many people can’t resist running out and buying every new gadget that appears. Do you own an iPad, some people are still a little more cautious and gathering information. Opinions vary with many people that own this device, on whether or not there is a right or wrong answer to get one. Have you heard people praise or criticize the iPad, below we will look at some of the reasons.

The iPad has an impressively long battery life. In a world where we all seem to live and die by the charger for our favorite devices, this is a huge deal. On average, the iPad can last 10 hours without needing to be recharged so you can enjoy the bulk of the day without charging it. There have been some users who have reported being able to use their iPads for an hour or two beyond this. The good thing to know from this is that you can go for a couple of hours without worrying about losing power. You can also get accessories such as a battery extender to make the battery last even longer.

One of the most sought after features of this device is its ability to play videos and movies. You have access to a multitude of media types in the iTunes store and you’ll enjoy the crisp images in HD. There also a free app you can get so that you can stream Netflix movies and TV shows on your iPad, though you have to be a member of Netflix for this.

All of the free content available on the internet sites such as YouTube for instance can also be viewed on you iPad. As far as quality of the image is concerned the iPad is quite convenient for watching videos.

The iPad does not support flash which limits some videos and content on websites. Since you can get an app for You Tube videos this isn’t really that big a deal.

According to Apple, flash is too slow and uses up too much memory so it’s more efficient to not support it. Sometime in the not so distant future it’s likely that alternatives such as HTML5 (which YouTube is already experimenting with) will become available. Still, if you want to be able to access all of the features of flash websites, the iPad may frustrate you.

The iPad is still one of the newest fun and fascinating devices on the market. Whether you want or need one yourself is something only you can answer. It’s important that you take time to weigh the pros and cons discussed here to really know if the iPad is right for you. One thing that is pretty much guaranteed is that Apple will work hard to fill the gaps in upcoming versions of this first run device.
